Hardship License

Indianapolis Hardship License Attorney

What Is a Hardship License?

A hardship license (referred to as “specialized driving privileges”) can let you drive while your license is suspended. However, it does not allow you to drive without restriction. Once you obtain one, you will be limited to driving for specific purposes, such as work, medical appointments, church, grocery trips, and taking a child to and from school/daycare.

My name is Attorney Christopher Grider, and I focus my practice on helping clients regain and maintain their driving privileges. If you have had your license suspended, contact my firm to learn more about specialized driving privileges and your eligibility. I offer free consultations and provide a money-back guarantee (for most noncriminal cases). What does this mean? As my client, you can complete confidence in me getting the results you need.

To speak to a hardship license attorney in Indianapolis, call (317) 637-9000 or connect with my office online. I represent clients in Marion and nearby counties.

Eligibility for Specialized Driving Privileges

In order to be eligible for specialized driving, you must meet certain criteria outlined in the Indiana code, such as being an Indiana resident and having your license suspended because of a violation that involved a motor vehicle or boat and meets other criteria. Importantly, those who have not been an Indiana resident, refused a chemical test, or committed an offense that led to another's death may not be eligible.

The laws determining whether you can get specialized driving privileges are intricate and hard to make sense of. Fortunately, you do not have to understand all the legal jargon—because I do. When you turn to my office, I can assess your eligibility and outline potential avenues for restoring your right to drive legally.

How to Obtain Specialized Driving Privileges

Generally, you must file a petition with the county court that suspended your license (often, this will be the county court where you also reside). Your petition should include detailed information about your need for specialized driving privileges and your proposed restricted driving schedule.

It is also often helpful to provide letters of support from employers, medical professionals, or other individuals who can attest to the necessity of your obtaining specialized driving privileges. Additionally, proving that you have completed any required treatment programs or paid necessary fines may increase your chances of being granted specialized driving privileges.

Should you partner with me, we will go over the steps ahead in detail. Here is what you can expect:

  • A review of your driving record and relevant documents
  • An evaluation of your eligibility
  • If deemed eligible, assistance in compiling documents and evidence for your petition
  • Detailed guidance on filing your petition and what to expect during the hearing
  • Continued representation and support throughout the petition process
